Laura
graduated from Harvard Medical School in 1984. She has extensive
experience working with frail elders to keep them as independent
as possible - working with PACE (Program of All Inclusive Care
of the Elderly) in both Massachusetts & Missouri. Laura
has practiced in a variety of settings where she has learned
a great deal from her patients & their families. Laura
is excited about Wellness Coaching & the ways it can promote
wellness while potentially improving the health care people
receive from the allopathic system.
Currently she is Medical Director of the St. Louis University
AHEC program which recruits diverse students to health care
fields & helps them serve underserved communities. Laura
hopes to weave coaching skills into the training future health
care providers receive so that they can be more effective & more
empowering as they elicit & share information with
their patients. Her academic focus is on promoting Health
Literacy - the ability to read, to understand & to effectively
use health information.
She has taught Community Medicine at several Universities
and is currently an Adjunct Assistant Professor at St. Louis
University in the Department of Community & Family Medicine
where she teaches medical students.
Laura is a Certified White Belt in Nia. She discovered dance
about the same time she discovered coaching. She shares this
form of movement with elders & those who don't usually
have a chance to exercise. Nia combines 9 movement forms from
areas such as Yoga, Dance & the Marital Arts to promote
wellness of Mind, Body, Emotions & Soul. She is gradually
educating herself about Integrative Medicine - discovering
forms of ancient wisdom mostly absent from the medical world
she grew up in.
A resident of St. Louis, MO for 6 years, Laura lives with
her exceptional husband. Her daughter is away at college, thriving.
She plays with her nieces & her nephew in Gloucester, Massachusetts
as often as she can.
